Momentous Day

Many of you know Ben was born with an oral fixation. As a "tongue sucker" from before his birth, we struggled with breast feeding and no one was surprised when he latched on (pun intended) to a pacifier. Our day care lady, who has been in the business for about 17 years says she's never seen a kid so reliant on his pacifier. So this was a very, VERY big deal.

Even more impressive (or is it really?) is how well he is adjusting. Once again, we are reaping the benefits of him being so extremely verbal. He really is able to talk through his frustrations amazingly well. I'm gushing here, but I was seriously prepared for this weekend to majorly suck and it hasn't at all. Ben still asks for his paci, but really only out of habit. He starts to giggle as soon as the words are out of his mouth. He hasn't been able to nap without it yet, but the good news is he's exhausted by the end of the day so he just crashes and sleeps all night... with the lacrosse helmet. So far, the most entertaining part of all this is watching him detox. Whether beatboxing, or insanely humming in the car, or slapping his own face, the kid has all the classic signs of a true addict coming down. But he has yet to be mean or completely melt down without it. We'll keep praying that there's no backsliding this week.
