Diagnosis

"Just remember God won't give you more than you can handle and he must know you can handle a lot because he gave you Benjamin"

Those were the words of our pediatrician yesterday.

He called to share the results of Ben's allergy tests.
He has Celliac Disease.
An allergy to wheat, a significant reaction to egg whites, and a less severe allergy to peanuts.

So yeah, my hunch that the diaper rash was an allergy was right.
My hunch that something was amiss with my boy was right.
But somehow that assurance doesn't make any of this any less overwhelming.

What's next?
Our doc will refer us to an allergy specialist. We likely won't be able to see him for months.
In the meanwhile, we'll likely meet with a dietician friend and I'll be submersing myself as much as possible to researching our options. (Any recipes you'd like to forward would be appreciated).

The good news is everything this means his issue AREN'T. (please don't diagram that sentence...)
He's NOT allergic to any fish, meat, nuts other than peanuts, milk or soy.
The rash on his bottom (6 weeks and counting) isn't some form of flesh eating bacteria or cancerous butt rot.
And today, none of his reactions seem severe enough to warrant an Epi pen or death sentence.

But.
It does change. Everything.

Off to the health food store I go!

I'm glad you're his mommy.

And, I'm embarrased to put this out there for all to see, but have a very busy week and am not sure when we'll talk...plus, I can only imagine how busy you'll be. Elizabeth Hasselback (think "The View") has the same and has actually published a book on it. I think one of her kids does, too, so even if you're not interested inthe book, googling her website might prove worthwhile.

And no, for the record, I don't watch that show...
