It's a gorgeous Saturday and we have no plans.
We decided it was a good day to just get our act together. Finish raking leaves. Get groceries. Put laundry away. You get the picture.
But we didn't want to just waste the day, either - for Ben's sake.
He took a 2 1/2 hour nap this morning and by the time he got up it was lunch time.
So the dilema. Eat first? Go out to eat? Push him until we get home?
Let's go out to eat. That's fun.
Fast food. That's cheap.
Not McDonalds. That's old.
My brain told me to pack food for Ben - justincase.
My guts told me - figure out how to do this!
We ended up at Wendy's.
"Okay... Well, he'll have a kids meal. Cheeseburger. No bun."
What?
"No bun please."
I don't know how to do that.
"Well, okay - it's fine if you give us the bun I guess. We'll just throw it away."
No, no - (shouting to the kitchen) HEY! That kids meal has NO BUN!
"Thanks."
Fries? Or mandarin oranges?
"Do you use peanut oil for the fries?"
Blank stare. I don't know.
(Second associate joins us)
What's the question?
"Do you use peanut oil? For the fries?"
Hmmm... dunno.
To the tie-wearing adult behind him - do we use peanut oil?
To the back office....
It's a combination of corn and soy.
"Great. We'll have the fries."
Okay - what to drink?
"White milk."
She hands me a Nesquick fortified white milk. I stand there reading the label.
It actually says "gluten free"! Phew.
"And I'll have the #5. Straight up."
Bottom line?
100% worth it.
Ben actually danced and giggled as he ate and showed every passerby his fries.
He LOVED eating like a big boy!!

I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around the idea that Ben can have Wendy's, but not 99% of what's in the grocery store aisles. That doesn't seem right...but I'm proud of you for finding something "normal" for him to eat! I bet you were BOTH happy sitting there!
