Sinking In

Ben woke up super early this morning and wanted to snuggle in bed with me. Once he was settled in, he asked me, "Safe?"
I asked him if he had a bad dream.
"I ate the candy house."

Interesting.
Why on earth would that kid be having nightmares about eating a candy house?

I realized later today that it's likely tied to our visit to the Peanut Store downtown Holland last night. I had a lengthy conversation with the woman there about their candy corn. Thankfully, their brand doesn't have egg white in it, and so Ben got what he wanted so desperately. (Don't ask me how he knows about candy corn). Before he put it in his mouth he said, "safe?"
I nearly jumped with joy.
HE GETS IT!
I said, "Yes, honey - this candy is safe for you. I'm so glad you asked before you tried it."

I suppose the relief I felt at that moment will always be paired with the guilt I feel for making him a worry-wart with nightmares about candy houses.

Oh Sara, that's tough. It's good for him to be aware, though. The nightmares will pass as his understanding grows. You're a good mommy!
