The past week, Ben has been really into reading us stories from the Bible. He acts as the teacher and gets really upset when we don't follow protocol. What's protocol, you ask (I did, too!)? After each story, Ben demanded that we cover our hearts with our hands and say "For the Bible."
Hmm.
We played along because he really wouldn't move on if we didn't do it. And he couldn't have cared less if we understood, as long as we did the motions and said "For the Bible" in unison.
I finally picked up on the fact that maybe we were thanking God for the Bible. When I asked Ben about that, he said "YES! For the Bible!"
Last week was his first experience in Sunday school instead of nursery. Do I even have to tell you what a champ he was? The teacher asked me to stick around "Just to be sure he's okay with all this." Right. The kid never looked back. He was so geeked to be in "class", he could hardly stop talking about it.
So when we were registering him today for class, I asked the teacher, "So what do you have the kids say after Bible stories?"
I got a blank stare.
I started to wonder if we're raising a preacher for real.
Another mom overheard our conversation and she said that's actually something they do in nursery. After they hear a Bible story, the kids use sign language to say "Thank God for the Bible."
Makes me so happy to know he's in a place where he's learning stuff - and applying it, too!

Abbie will only thank God for Gwennie, my mom's cat. I'm thinking she needs to hang out with Ben some more.
