We had big a big thunder storm roll in last night. It had rained all day, but it took until 10:00pm for the lightning to gear up. Ben woke soon after. I opened his door to find him cowering in the corner, without his blanket (indicating he got out of bed really quickly) and quite literally shaking in the knees.
"Mommy! Scary!"
I had heard the storm would be intense until 1am, so I brought him to bed with me. He was back asleep before his head was even down.
I waiting a while for Keith to come to bed before falling asleep myself. As I lay there watching him sleep, it struck me that I'm a mom. Shocking revelation, I know. But it's one thing to be a mommy, it's another to be a parent. A mom. The adult in this precious boy's life that can calm his fears just by being close. Wow. What an amazing responsibility and privilege.
